Jobs Lost In Galway

A Galway-based company has announced that it is to close next year with the loss of 90 full-time jobs and 26 part-time posts.

The move by Inter Group Insurance Services which is part of the Royal Bank of Scotland is understood to have come about as a result of a shift in the insurance outsourcing market over recent years.

Those affected will be invited to apply for alternative roles within the group and then discussions will take place on redundancy and the closure.

The company is expected to wind up operations by mid 2009.

Meanwhile, the parent company, Royal Bank of Scotland, is itself to cut about 3,000 jobs in the next few weeks.

According to the BBC on Friday, the positions will go in its global banking and markets workforce, spanning more than 50 countries, and some are likely to be lost in the City of London as well.
