Passenger and car ferry service for Foyle Lough

A £3.6 million ferry service has been launched in the North West to carry passengers and vehicles between Counties Londonderry and Donegal.

The new ferry began carrying car and foot passengers between Magilligan and Greencastle at the mouth of Lough Foyle at the weekend.

The new roll-on, roll-off ferry was co-financed by Limavady Borough Council and Donegal County Council, and is likely to be in heavy use during the July Twelfth fortnight when many Northern Ireland holidaymakers traditionally take their annual leave in County Donegal.

The two councils awarded the contract for the all-year-round service to Greencastle businessman, James McClenaghan.
