Seminars examine reality of living in the eurozone

With Northern Ireland currently exporting around one fifth of regional product to eurozone countries the seminar 'Living with the euro – the Reality for Businesses in Northern Ireland' offers a valuable insight into business in the eurozone.

At the seminar to be held in the Canal Court, Newry, on Thursday June 20, expert speakers on the issues of banking, accountancy and marketing will address attendees. A number of local companies will also share their recent experiences of the euro, the issues involved and the practical preparations they have made.

The speakers will share with those present, what they believe to be the advantages, the opportunities and the threats of the euro in Northern Ireland.

With key export countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain and, in particular, the Republic of Ireland converting to the new currency, the introduction of the euro has already had a significant impact on Northern Ireland business.

Organisers highlight that the challenge for the local SME sector, particularly those exporting to or importing from eurozone countries, is that the introduction of the euro means potentially increased competition from businesses in the eurozone area. Local businesses need to be ready to meet that and all other practical challenges, whenever and wherever they arise.

The seminars will run from 10am and will end with a lunch at 1pm. Due to limited numbers contact Julie Sherlock at Happening on tel. 028 9066 4020 or email: Julies@happen.co.uk.

The Northern Ireland Euro Preparations Forum, in conjunction with The Ulster Society of Chartered Accountants, the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the First Trust Bank devised the series of free regional seminars to ensure that the SME sector in Northern Ireland is prepared to trade in the euro.
