Down Contractor Cuts 35 Jobs
An established County Down building firm has axed 35 jobs at its Kilkeel base.
RG Coulter has operated in the town for over 40 years, but of recent times, has fallen victim to the housing market slowdown.
At its peak the firm employed around 300 staff, making it the largest employer in the area.
Today, a local MLA paid tribute to owner of the long-running contracting company, Gordon Coulter.
South Down Assemblyman Jim Wells said it was "dreadful" the firm had become the latest casualty in the construction industry slump.
"Gordon was a great employer. It's dreadful news and a very sad blow for the entire town," said Mr Wells.
