Farmer's Death Was Murder, Say Police
Police have said they are treating the death of a Co Armagh farmer as murder.
Forty-five year old Victor Stewart's body was found at his remote farmhouse on Creevekeeran Road in Middletown on Wednesday morning. A post mortem was carried out on the man's remains yesterday.
Last night, officers from the PSNI's Major Investigation Team confirmed a murder enquiry had been launched.
Detectives have appealed for anyone who was in the area between Sunday and Tuesday to contact them.
A PSNI spokesman said: "They are also appealing for anyone who was in the Creevekeeran Road area of Middletown between Sunday and Tuesday to call them on the dedicated incident room number on 028 3751 7390."
Local councillor Noel Gerald Mallon spoke of the Middletown community's shock at the news.
"There is shock in the community regarding this death. From what I have heard he was sitting in the chair and had lost a lot of blood," he said.
Another councillor appealed for anyone with information to contact police.
Darren McNally said: "This comes on the back of an incident in Armagh a couple of weeks ago,
"I would appeal for anyone with any information to come forward," he added.
Earlier this month, the body of 62-year-old Eileen Corrigan was found in her home on Boyd's Row in Armagh city.
