Derry Stab Man Charged

A 26-year-old man is in a stable condition in a specialist unit of a Belfast hospital after he was stabbed several times in the Shantallow area of Londonderry at the weekend.

A man who was arrested in connection with the incident at Drumleck Drive - which also saw police attending the scene being attacked by youths throwing stones - has now been before a court.

Daniel John Moran, 23, of Inch View in Derry, is accused of attempted murder.

He appeared before Londonderry Magistrates Court today charged in connection with a weekend stabbing.

A police officer told the court the defendant is alleged to have stabbed his 26-year-old victim following a row outside his home in Drumleck Drive.

Mr Moran admitted kicking and punching the victim but denied stabbing him.

The court was told the injured man was stabbed in the face, chest, right forearm and left leg and that he is now in Dundonald Hospital receiving specialist medical treatment.

Mr Moran was then remanded in custody until 6 November.
