Armagh Murder Probe Underway

The 62-year-old woman found dead in a house in Armagh City was murdered, police have now said.

Detectives are still examining the home of Eileen Corrigan, whose body was found in a house in Boyds Row, close to the Loughgall Road, on Monday afternoon.

The death of Mrs Corrigan, who was described by neighbours as "quiet and inoffensive", has shocked the area with the street where she was discovered still cordoned off.

Earlier, police were only saying that they were treating the death as "suspicious".

Commenting this morning, a local politician, UUP Councillor Sylvia McRoberts said: "There is very little information at the minute about what happened."

A police spokewoman wasn't saying much other than making an appeal for witnesses.

She said: "Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area or who can help police with their enquiries is asked to contact police in Armagh."

Meanwhile, Sinn Fein Councillor Cathy Rafferty said the woman's death will be a shock for people in the area.

"The Boyds Row area of Armagh is a very quiet area. I am sure news of this death will be a shock there," she said.
