Mother and son escape injury in gun attack

A mother and her 15-year-old son have escaped injury in a gun attack on their Antrim home.

They were in their Renown Court house last night when two shots were fired at the front door.

Both needed treatment for shock following the attack which police said they did not believe was sectarian. Mother and son have since announced they will be leaving the area following the attack.

Meanwhile a 17-year-old youth was injured in a paramilitary-style beating in north Belfast early this morning.

He was alone in a flat in Skegoniel Avenue when four masked men, two armed with baseball bats and a gun, forced their way in and attacked him.

The teenager suffered facial injuries but refused hospital treatment, said police.
