'ATM' Robbers Fire Shot

Armed raiders have fired a shot into the air, before making off with a cash box as a delivery was being made at premises in Co Tyrone.

An armed and masked man approached a security firm employee as he delivered money at a petrol station on Oaks Road Dungannon, at about 1pm on Monday.

There is an ATM machine at the premises, which is regularly replenished.

Although a shot was fired during the armed robbery, no one was hurt.

Robbers are increasingly less likely to succeed in these cases. Crooks who attacked G4 Securicor personnel delivering a large quantity of money to one of the ATM cash machines in Newtownabbey's Abbey Centre in June were thwarted, for example.

Although the robbers did make off with a box after assaulting the security cash officer, the box - according to eyewitnesses - exploded, spilling dye inside the shopping mall. It later turned out to be empty anyway.
