Voting Underway For Coveted Enniskillen Seat

The polls have opened for the contentious Fermanagh Council By-Election.

The Enniskillen seat, vacated by the late Councillor Joe Dodds, has gained much media attention, with high profile candidates vying for the Council spot.

The six candidates include DUP Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster, Sinn Fein's Debbie Coyle, as well as UUP, SDLP and Alliance contingents.

Polls opened this morning at 7am to the 12,000 people eligible to vote in the ward.

The polling station will close at 10pm tonight.

The result, which has been described as "too close to call", will be announced tomorrow.

Counting Underway In Local Council Elections
The counting process has begun in Northern Ireland's council elections. Ballot boxes were opened in 11 count centres across the region at 8am this morning, Friday 03 May, commencing the two-day count. The 1,463 polling stations closed their doors at 10pm last night, sealing the fate of the 819 candidates fighting for 462 seats.

Negotiations Over Programme For Govt To Begin
Negotiations over a programme for government are expected to begin at Stormont today, 09 May, following the election results. The two main parties, the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) and Sinn Féin, have two weeks to reach an agreement. The smaller parties are to decide if they will form an opposition.

Voters in Northern Ireland go to the polls
Voters were going to the polls today to elect representatives for the Northern Ireland's Legislative Assembly. Over one million people are entitled to vote in the election being held today, which has 256 candidates vying for the 108 MLA (Members of the Legislative Assembly) seats spead across the 18 constituencies.
