Over 1,000 Retail Jobs Announced
The Tánaiste has announced that over a thousand jobs will be coming to Limerick, if planning permission for a new shopping centre goes through.
Another several hundred jobs are also expected for Dublin with the expansion of one of Ireland’s busiest shopping centres.
Proposals for the €350m Opera centre in Limerick are currently at the planning stage, but Limerick Mayor John Gilligan confirmed the 300,000 sq ft city-centre project would get the go-ahead from local planning officers later this week.
While a Limerick city planning officer said a decision on the Opera centre would not be announced until later this week, Mr Gilligan said the development, which was planned by Regeneration Developments Limited, "will definitely get the go-ahead".
Speaking in Dundrum, Tanaiste Mary Coughlan said the retail sector played an important role in the Irish economy, as around 10% of the workforce are employed in shops across the country.
Dundrum Town Centre this Friday will also be hosting a jobs fair to attract new employees. Representatives from House of Fraser, Harvey Nichols, Marks & Spencer and Tesco will be attending.
