Man accused of murder released on bail

The man who is accused of murdering a former Scottish motorcyclist champion has been released on bail today at Belfast High Court.

Paul Raymond Baird, 21 from Beechgrove in Lisburn, appeared before the High Court charged with the murder of 49-year-old John James Silver from Aberdeen in Scotland.

Mr Silver was found stabbed and lying on the ground in the Mossvale Park area of Ballyclare nearly two weeks ago. However the post mortem examination revealed he died as a result of blunt trauma to the head.

The court heard that Mr Baird had returned from a wedding in the early hours of Sunday June 23 and seen Mr Silver and his mother sitting together on a sofa watching television. He thought his mother was being taken advantage of and attacked Mr Silver.

Mr Baird was released on bail of £11,000 and ordered to stay off alcohol and seek medical treatment.

Woman Charged With Attempted Murder After Man Stabbed In Co Down
A 36-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed in Co Down. The 54-year-old victim was stabbed in the Manor Court area in Moira on Monday. He is currently in a serious but stable condition in hospital. The woman is to appear at Craigavon Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Man remanded in custody over biker’s death

Priest faces two indecent assault charges
An Armagh priest has appeared in court today charged with two charges of indecent assault. The charges against Father Michael Gerard McQuillian, 42, relate to incidents between March and October 1990. McQuillian released on police bail, pending a further hearing on 8 July.

Woman Charged With Murder Of Toddler
A 27-year-old woman arrested over the death of a three-year-old boy in Lisburn has been charged with his murder. Brendan Owens was found dead on 4 July at a property in Trinity Terrace, Lisburn. A post-mortem examination was carried out on the infant at the time, but it is understood the results were inconclusive.
