Low cost airline numbers continue to grow
Low-cost airline partners Easyjet and Go have announced increases in passenger numbers for the month of June.
Easyjet said it carried 958,857 passengers, an increase of 51.5% compared with last year, and 6% higher than in May, while Go reported a 71.8% increase in passenger number to 550,749.
These latest figures are sure to please Easyjet management who are in the process of taking over Go in a £374m ($567.7m) deal.
The Easyjet and Go figures followed news on Thursday that Dublin-based Ryanair had carried 1.25 million passengers in June, up 34% on a year ago.
However, while the low cost airline business continues to boom, UK national carrier, British Airways, announced a big drop in passenger traffic figures earlier in the week.

Figures for the firm's performance show that the airline carried 700,526 passengers during January 2002.

Budget airline Easyjet has revealed that passenger numbers fell by just three per cent last month, despite the downturn in the airline industry following the terror attacks in the United States. However, the level of business during that month was much higher than a year ago.

On Tuesday easyJet said they carried 898,080 passengers in May, 43% more than in the same period last year, while Go said they carried just over 500,000 passengers in May, 89% more than it did the year before.

Low fares airline EasyJet has announced that it plans to build on its existing routes from Belfast to London after posting a healthy increase in profits. EasyJet’s preliminary results for the year ended 30 September 2001 show pre-tax profits rose 82 per cent to £40.1 million and revenues were up 35 per cent to £356.9 million.

Fare Increases For 'Profitable Ryanair'
The Irish 'budget airline' Ryanair has reported a jump in first quarter profits and passenger numbers. However, it still aims to push up fares, which the firm said would rise by an average of up to 12% in the year to the end of March 2012 as fuel prices rise.
