Quigley Accused Must Be Tried Soon
The NI man accused of killing pregnant Londonderry mother-of-four Jean Quigley must be brought to trial during late September.
Gardaí were told they have until 19 September to bring a case against Stephen Cahoon from Harvey Street in Derry when he appeared in court in Roscommon on Friday.
Ms Quigley, who was two months pregnant, was battered to death at her home in Cornshell Fields on July 26.
His solicitor said his client opted for trial south of the border but reserved his right to change his mind, which he can do at any time before his arraignment.
The accused was initially arrested by Gardaí last month in Donegal town after a PSNI request, but action was delayed when he was rushed to hospital.
He had been taken to Sligo General Hospital for treatment from Ballyshannon Garda station after he complained of feeling unwell.
However, once he left hospital with a clean bill of health, he was brought to a preliminary court appearance, with the latest remand taking place today
The arrest was made under Section 2 of the Irish Criminal Law Act 1976 allowing trial in either Irish jurisdiction.
