Gardaí Make Arrest In Co Cork Shooting Probe

Gardaí investigating a Co Cork murder last year have made an arrest.

They arrested a 29-year-old as yet unnamed male at 10.30am this morning in connection with the death of David Brett at Foyle, Ballydesmond, on 21st May, 2007.

The man is being detained at Bandon Garda Station and is detained under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

The original murder investigation was launched following the discovery of the Charleville man's body.

Mr Brett - believed to have been a significant player in the drugs trade in Cork - was shot dead.

The body was found near Foyle Primary School at around 10.30pm, about 6.5km from the village.

Man Charged Following Newry Disorder Incident
A 37-year-old man has been charged with assault on police, attempted criminal damage, criminal damage, disorderly behaviour and resisting police. The charges relate to a disturbance in the Mall area of Newry on Sunday 8th December at around 1:50am. Police said the man became aggressive and abusive towards officers.

Man Injured In Belfast City Centre Assault
Detectives are investigating an assault that occurred in Belfast City Centre on Saturday, 7th December. Shortly after 4pm, police received a report that a man had been assaulted by an unknown individual in the High Street/Church Lane area. The victim sustained injuries to his face and body and was taken to hospital for treatment.
