City 'Bus' Tours Take To The Water
It's been great weather for ducks this month with seemingly endless torrents of rain sweeping the Province, but one entrepreneurial business has taken things literally.
With Belfast spending yet another summer under water a local tour operator has stolen a march on the competition by splashing out £2m for a fleet of amphibious buses.
Belfast city is set to become the first in Europe to take delivery of the new high-tech coaches, which are at home on both land and on the water.
The flooded motorways, which have been creating a commuting nightmare in Belfast, certainly won't present too many problems for the new 'Duck Tours' when they start in service early next year.
The land and sea crafts, which are capable of doing 70mph on the road and 10 knots on the water, will allow visitors to get up close with all the main attractions, from the City Hall to Harland & Wolff shipyard, (pictured here by Brian McCalden), which was the famous Titantic's birthplace.
Duck Tours owner Robert Wilson said: "Amphibious tours offer excitement and a genuinely memorable experience but I am focusing also on the quality of the tour, the accuracy of the guided commentary which will be conducted by fully trained personnel and the safety and comfort of our passengers."
The city follows Sydney and Boston to become the latest port city to invest in the vehicles.

Belfast City Council has announced two free tours of of Belfast City Cemetery delivered in Irish, taking place this February and March. The tours will focus on the city's development in the nineteenth century and the people behind the revival of the Irish language, including the role of Protestant Irish enthusiasts.

Free Tours Mark City Hall Relaunch
As Belfast City Hall's reopening approaches, festive activities organised to celebrate the event will soon be underway too. "A packed programme of fun is being lined up from 17 October to encourage residents of all ages, from all parts of Belfast, to enjoy ownership of the public building," said a spokeswoman for Belfast City Council.

The Belfast Maritime Weekender is set to return with a two-day festival of family fun on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September. The event will bring Belfast's maritime and industrial history to life and includes pockets of exciting seafaring activities stretching across Sailortown, City Quays and Donegall Quay, to Queen's Quay and Titanic Quarter.
