Derry Window Firm Halves Workforce

The wider spectrum of trades associated with the ailing housing market are beginning to feel the impact of the slowdown.

A County Londonderry windows firm has confirmed plans to slash its workforce by half.

Hillcrest Group said 15 of its 23 employees would be laid off, citing the downturn in contracts for its decision.

The firm's plants in Campsie and Claudy make windows and other components for new builds.

John McFeely established the company in 1992.

The family-run firm has since expanded to include Hillcrest Glass and Hillcrest Specialist Joinery.
