Catholic church damaged in blaze

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of a fire at a Catholic church in County Antrim.

The police and fire service were alerted to the blaze at the Aughnahoy Church near Portglanone just after 6am on Thursday morning.

Fire officer Peter O'Reilly said the building was filled with smoke and that the front door of the chapel had been open. Mr O'Reilly also revealed that there had been damage to a window at the rear.

He added: "The property would have been badly smoke damaged, however, fire damage was confined to the rear by the quick actions of the fire crew."
