PSNI welcome Assistant Chief Constable appointments
The Police Service of Northern Ireland has welcomed the recent announcement by the Policing Board of the appointment of two new Assistant Chief Constables.
They are Chief Superintendent Duncan McCausland and Chief Superintendent Roy Toner, both current serving officers with PSNI.
Chief Superintendent McCausland is 43-years-old and has been a police officer for 19 years. He joined the police in 1983 following a career in teaching. He holds a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University, Belfast; a post-graduate Diploma in Administrative and Legal Studies; a Master of Arts and a Diploma in Applied Criminology from the University of Ulster.
Mr McCausland served as an Inspector in Newcastle and Lisburn. As a Chief Inspector he served as head of Policy and Planning at police headquarters.
On promotion to Superintendent in 1998, he assumed responsibility as commander of the then Dungannon Sub-Division. He subsequently served in Command Secretariat and acted as staff officer to the Chief Constable.
Chief Superintendent McCausland was promoted to his current rank on March 11 this year and is currently Operations Manager for Belfast Region and Deputy to the Assistant Chief Constable for Belfast. He is also due to complete the Strategic Command Course at Bramshill Police College.
Chief Superintendent Toner is aged 40 and has 21 year as police service. He has a BA (Hons) degree in Public Policy and Management from the University of Ulster and, in 1998, obtained an MBA from the Ulster Business School. He also holds a diploma in Criminology and Police Studies from Cambridge University of Ulster.
Mr Toner served as an Inspector in Community Affairs Branch.
As a Chief Inspector he served in Complaints and Discipline branch. He also served in Strand Road, in Londonderry, before secondment to Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary where he specialised in community and race relations. He also served as Sub-divisional commander in Ballymena and helped spearhead Patten recommendations relating to training, education and development.
Chief Superintendent Toner was promoted to his current rank on March 4 this year and is currently District Commander in Lisburn.
The appointments will be subject to the approval of the Secretary of State.

The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

NI-Born Police Mentor Dies In Afghanistan
A Northern Ireland man - believed to be in his early 50s - has been killed in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan. The Foreign Office has confirmed that Ken McGonigle from Co Tyrone was working as a police mentor when he was shot by an escaped prisoner in the Musa Qala district on Saturday.

Mrs Larmour came within the top performers on the Strategic Command Course which she graduated from on the 13th March 2015. In West Midlands Police, Michele is joining the second largest police Force in England.
