Quigley Suspect Hospitalised

The man arrested by Gardaí for questioning in relation to the murder of a pregnant mother-of-four in Londonderry last month has been rushed to hospital this afternoon.

As a PSNI spokesman refused to comment further, telling a local radio station in Donegal that it would be "inappropriate to comment further on what next step the investigation will take at this stage", now that the suspect is under heavy guard in hospital.

The 36-year-old man was taken to Sligo General Hospital for treatment from Ballyshannon Garda station a few hours ago after he complained of feeling unwell.

The man was initially arrested in Donegal town after a PSNI request last night under measures entitling Gardaí to hold him for up to 24 hours before he must be brought to court or released.

But his term of detention went into suspension for the period he is in hospital.

The arrest was made under Section 2 of the Irish Criminal Law Act 1976.

It is believed that it's unlikely he will be brought to court today although he could appear before a scheduled special vacation sitting of the District Court in Donegal Town tomorrow morning or in Sligo tomorrow afternoon.

Jean Quigley was found beaten to death at her home in the Cornshell Fields area of Londonderry on July 26.
