Derry Man Badly Beaten
Details of a brutal Co Londonderry assault last weekend have only now emerged.
The victim, Aidan Boyle's ankle was broken in two places, his leg fractured and his eye injured in the attack that took place at Lisnagelvin playing fields last Sunday.
He had been badly beaten - in front of his wife and seven-year-old son - by a gang of eight youths, because he "refused to be intimidated" by the thugs.
The 45-year-old said it was very hard on his wife too: "When I was lying on the ground my wife was in hysterics. The child ran up the street and got this other neighbour to help," he said.
"He came down and it was him who got the ambulance.
"They were still over shouting abuse and they threw bicycles at the ambulance."
Mr Boyle said: "People have to take a stance and I'll be glad to take a stance and go through the courts and take a stance because it's the only way."
Police said their officers are investigating an assault on a 45-year-old man in the Irish Street area.
Meanwhile, Irish police have been given a further 24 hours to question the three men they arrested earlier this week over the brutal gang assault that left south Armagh man Paul Quinn dead last year.
The men, aged 22, 24 and 36, were arrested in Co Monaghan this week to be questioned over the death of the 21-year-old, who was beaten to death at farm buildings near Castleblayney in County Monaghan last October.
In associated news, two men in their 50s arrested in south Armagh by the PSNI in connection with Mr Quinn's death on Tuesday have now been released, although another man in his 20s remains in custody.
