Minister Welcomes New Newry Homes
A newly built housing scheme in Newry has been welcomed by the NI Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie.
Speaking at the launch of Chequer Hill, the Minister said: "This is an important scheme that will quickly provide 33 much needed family homes for Newry.
"BIH and O'Hagan Properties deserve our congratulations on recognising the site's potential.
"I have set challenging targets for social housing new build over the coming years and to achieve these will require commitment, imagination and innovation.
"This development is an example of real and effective partnership between a housing association and the private sector and it is exactly what we need to tackle the housing crisis in Northern Ireland," she said.
Last week, BIH announced a planned investment for more affordable housing in Newtownards, Co Down.
The BIH housing association manages and maintains more than 4,500 properties across the Province.

Crumlin Social Housing Scheme Opened
A new social housing scheme of three and four bedroom houses has been officially opened in Crumlin. The fourteen new homes for families on the social housing waiting list, is owned and managed by Habinteg Housing Association who funded the build, with support from the Department for Social Development.

Brewery To Become New Homes
A new £25m housing scheme has been approved for the old Bass Brewery in west Belfast. Some 166 new homes will be built in what is being billed as one of the largest social housing schemes undertaken in Northern Ireland. It will also create much needed employment - with some 200 on-site jobs boosting the beleaguered construction industry.
