Lottery Fund Backs Newtownabbey Council's Historic Centre

A project to realise a planned Interpretative Centre at Newtownabbey Council's headquarters has moved a step closer.

As part of an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), local councillors have now agreed the Co Antrim Council will underwrite the ongoing running costs of the centre of around £80,000 to £100,000.

The ground floor of the 19th century building is being developed to show the history of the Mill including its industrial heritage and its owners and workers.

It will cost around £900,000 to fit out the new centre, and the Council has asked the HLF to grant it 75% of that figure.
