£5.5m Bombardier Contracts Awarded To Local Companies
International aircraft manufacturer Bombardier Aerospace has announced over £5.5 million towards contracts across Ireland.
Six local suppliers will benefit from the announcement - made at the Farnborough International Airshow - which will see the supply components for Bombardier's new regional jet. This is the largest singled investment in Northern Ireland by any company.
Michael Ryan, Belfast Vice President and General Manager, welcomed the news, saying: "This represents another significant step in our ongoing commitment to encourage the development of a competitive supply base throughout Ireland.
"One of the reasons why these companies are winning business with us is because they are investing in new technology and actively seeking to move up the value chain to take on higher value added work."
Contracts for a number of aircraft programmes, over a period of two years, that will benefit from the investment are: John Huddleston Engineering in Greyabbey, Dontaur Engineering Ltd in Ballymena, J.W. Kane Precision Engineering Ltd in Portadown, Moyola Precision Engineering in Castledawson, Maydown Precision Engineering Ltd in Londonderry and Nicholl Engineering Ltd in Newtownabbey.
In the Republic, Aerospace Industries and Galway-based ÉireComposites were both awarded contracts to supply engine parts and hardware for other aircraft components.
Michael Ryan added that the companies were "demonstrating their willingness to adapt to global aerospace business needs and ensuring they can be competitive".

NI Receives First Heritage Award
Northern Ireland has received its first ever Engineering Heritage award. The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IME) announced Northern Ireland would be the recipient of its 76th award in recognition of an experimental aircraft built in Belfast. The award is given in recognition of significant engineering achievements.

Two companies, Blue Eagle Precision Engineering, Portadown, and Williams Industrial Services, Newtownabbey, are attending the event for the first time.
