District councils up pay offer to workers
Northern Ireland's 26 district councils have improved their pay offer for the lowest-paid council workers ahead of talks at the conciliation service Acas.
Employers will present their offer on Friday having signed up to a national deal that guarantees no council worker should earn less than £5 an hour. In real terms this equates to a 10p per hour increase on employers' previous 3% pay rise offer.
However, the new arrangement is thought to be conditional on the acceptance of a two-year pay deal.
This latest offer follows last week's one-day strike in protest at low pay across Northern Ireland, England and Wales which caused massive disrupted and closed many council services.
A second strike is planned for August 14 with a third also set for September.
Around 277,000 council employees in Northern Ireland, England and Wales currently earn less than the £5 an hour threshold.

Hovis Workers Agree Increased Pay Offer

New figures show that 92% of 'Large Scale Planning Applications' are being dealt with within six months, beating the set target of 75%. Turnaround times for planning applications are improving, becoming "speedier and fairer", Environment minister Mark H Durkan said.

15% Rise In Littering Fines Being Issued
New figures have shown a 15% rise in the number of fines issued for littering. In the 12 months to April some 3,742 fixed penalty notices were issued by 26 local councils, according to a report by the BBC. However, the figures also show a disparity in the issuing of fines from council to council.

Fire Brigades Union Votes To Accept Revised Pay Offer
The Fire Brigades Union has voted to accept a revised pay offer of 7% effective from 01 July 2022 and 5% effective from 01 July 2023. Northern Ireland's Interim Chief Fire & Rescue Officer, Andy Hearn, welcomed the outcome of the Fire Brigades Union ballot.
