Teenager Stabbed

A young Co Tyrone man has been stabbed. The 18-year-old is being treated in hospital after he was injured in the early hours of Friday morning. It happened shortly before 1am at a house on the Donaghmore Road in Dungannon. A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack, a PSNI spokesman said.

Initiation Four Freed

Four men who are alleged to have bullied a boy during a so-called initiation ceremony at work have walked free from court after a successful appeal. The men, from Co Londonderry, had been sent to prison for assaulting the 15-year-old but their sentences were quashed. The teenager said he was tied to a chair, assaulted and one man exposed himself. The victim's father said his ordeal has had a devastating effect on him: "It's totally destroyed him ever since".

Fire Attacks

Fire crews have been attacked with stones while attending a call-out at a vacant house in west Belfast. "One vehicle had a windscreen smashed and crews were threatened," said a Fire Service spokesman and after police attended the scene, one person was taken into custody.

Murder: One Freed

The 44-year-old man being questioned about the murder of a stonemason in south Belfast last Tuesday has been released, but the 28-year-old man taken into custody shortly after the body of Shane Cunningham, 39, was discovered at house in the Woodbreda Park area, is still being held.

Deadly Paracetamol

The deadly impact of misused over-the-counter drugs has been underlined with news that a Limavady woman died after she accidentally overdosed on paracetamol tablets she was taking for flu, an inquest has heard. Deborah Lynne Robinson, 37, suffered liver and kidney failure after she took 16-and-a-half paracetamol pills in two days. Pathologist Dr Hizbullah Shaikh, who carried out the post-mortem examination, said Mrs Robinson's lungs were full of fluid due to her liver and kidneys failing. Coroner John Sampson recorded a verdict of accidental death due to liver failure caused by an unintentional paracetamol overdose.
