Teenage Girl Joins Juvenile Boy In Court On Robbery Charges

While a male juvenile remains in custody in relation to six separate criminal incidents in a six-hour period, a teenage girl is today also due in court over the same allegations.

The 18-year-old is to face three charges of armed robbery. She also faces two counts of robbery, aggravated burglary and assaulting police.

She is scheduled to appear at Laganside Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

It is understood the charges are connected with a series of incidents in the university area of south Belfast.

Police said that the alleged offences began shortly before 10pm on Tuesday when a staff member in cafe in Botanic Avenue was assaulted by a woman.

Half an hour later, staff at a nearby takeaway restaurant were robbed at knifepoint by two males and a female.

Two males and a female were also involved in three further assaults and robberies on pedestrians more than three hours later.

Two women had their handbags stolen and a man had his wallet and phone taken after being threatened with a knife in the incidents on Fitzroy Avenue, Cromwell Road and Botanic Avenue.

Police are also investigating a burglary from a house in Fitzroy Avenue, which was reported at 4.10am.
