Anti-sectarian rally takes place in Londonderry

Workers have gathered in Londonderry to take part in an anti-sectarian rally following the murder of construction worker David Caldwell.

The rally, which took place at the scene of Mr Caldwell's murder on Thursday, was organised by the Derry Trade Union Council.

Signifying the importance of the rally to workers human rights, Ann Molloy of Derry Trade Union Council, said: "Workers must feel safe to go to work in peace and people must feel safe to live without fear of intimidation to go about their daily work."

A number of other trade unionists, local workers and community and voluntary organisations attended the rally, which marched to Guildhall Square via the Craigavon Bridge.

Today's gathering followed a similar event in Belfast on Friday when thousands of people descended on City Hall in response to the killing of Catholic teenager, Gerald Lawlor, who was murdered by loyalists almost two week's ago. (MB)
