Roads Minister Announces £57m Armagh Linking Scheme
NI Roads Minister Conor Murphy has unveiled the preferred route for a £57 million scheme linking the A3 Armagh North and West Link.
Attending a public information event yesterday, the Minister said: "This is great news for the people of Armagh and will be welcomed by many Armagh residents and those who do business in the city."
"The new road, in addition to helping through traffic, will also contribute to relieving traffic conditions and improving the environment in Armagh's historic city centre. "
Minister Murphy said the Roads Service has been seeking technical advice over the past year.
"Amey Consulting, who have been undertaking an environmental, technical and economic assessment of three potential route options."
The minister said the consultants had concluded that an "out of town" corridor would provide the best route for the new road
"We hope to begin construction of this new road within the next five years, subject to satisfactory completion of the usual statutory procedures and the normal budgetary constraints.
"The proposed new 6.9 km long single carriageway road will link from the A3 Portadown Road on the east side of the city to the A3 Monaghan Road, on the southwest side of the city."

Local roads get record £80m spend
A record £80 million will be spent on structural roads maintenance this year across Northern Ireland. The figure was revealed by Deputy Divisional Roads Manager, Tom McCourt as he presented DRD Roads Service’s autumn report to Newtownabbey Borough Council. Icy Stretch Forecast For NI
It appears we're not quite out of the woods just yet as a blanket of ice is set to cover Northern Ireland this week. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning in light of the frosty forecast. It will take affect at 9pm on Wednesday 11 March, continuing until 10am on Thursday.
