Consilium to provide council intranet solution
Belfast-based Consilium Technologies, a leading supplier of IT solutions to district councils, has agreed to supply its intranet solution – SORCE – to two district councils in England.
SORCE is due to go live at the end of August for 150 users at Castle Morpeth Borough Council and Alnwick District Council.
The two councils are increasingly working in partnership, sharing IT resources as part of their plans for implementing e-government networking. They hope to save money in training and implementation by jointly purchasing the SORCE solution.
SORCE is already installed in a number of other councils, and has found wide market acceptance as it provides a close fit to most council's requirements without the need for extensive bespoke development work. This results in fast deployments and a lower purchase price.
Julie Brown, ICT Manager at Castle Morpeth, said: "SORCE has very impressive capabilities and brings us lots of standard functionality literally 'out-of-the-box'.
"Consilium's solution allows us to provide one source for all internal communications. The strong document sharing and searching facilities means we can provide direct access to the information people need to do their job effectively."
Peter McHugh, Consilium's Business Development Director, added: "This contract is a good example of Consilium's strategy in action. We find relevant software solutions, and then package and price them to cater specifically for the realities within district councils."
Consilium recently signed a £1.3 million Strategic IT Partnership with Alnwick District Council to provide a suite of core software systems via the ASP model, and to support the council with the implementation of its e-government plans.
