Man charged over counterfeit bank notes

A Co Antrim man has been in court charged in connection with the seizure of counterfeit bank notes worth an estimated £250,000.

Lawrence Wray, a 41-year-old father of two from Veddegan Road, Newtownabbey, was charged with making counterfeit euro and sterling notes and having them at his home.

He was also charged with having equipment used to produce the counterfeit notes.

The defendant was released on £9,000 bail and is to appear in court again on October 3. He is to report to police in Glengormley once a week.

A 36-year-old woman, also from Newtownabbey, has also been charged in connection with the seizure.

She has already been released on bail to appear in court at a later date.

The PSNI's Serious Crime Squad raided a house on Tuesday were they found computers, a paper cutting machine, a hot foil machine and foil stamps.

Police believe there was no paramilitary involvement in the racket.
