Queen Honours Those Behind NI Regeneration
The Queen has recognised 57 people from Northern Ireland, with Her Majesty's Birthday Honours List including many awards to individuals involved in the regeneration and promotion of the Province as an area for investment and redevelopment.
Those honoured with MBE's included Northern Ireland top footballer David Healy, long-serving DUP east Belfast Councillor and MLA Robin Newton and Rodney James, Managing Director of Killyhevlin Hotel in Enniskillen.
Similarly honoured were Alexandra Buchan, from the Department of Social Development's West Belfast Regeneration Office; Doreen Burns, a Personnel Officer for the Department of Regional Development; and former Chief Executive of Cookstown Council, Michael McGuckin.
Award-winning photographer John Harrison also received an MBE; the Rev David Kerr who helped in the development of the East Belfast Mission's £23m Skainos Project; Irish Hockey Association President Andrew Rose; Carrickfergus JP James Currie, who has devoted the past 60 years to helping disadvantaged and vulnerable young people and is the chairman of the NI Youth Service, NI CLIC Sargent Cancer Care for Children and NI Temperance Society, and Cookstown music teacher Meta Bell.
Consultant clinical psychologist Dr Michael Paterson was awarded an OBE for his services to healthcare. Dr Paterson, a former policeman who had both arms blown off in an IRA bomb attack in 1981, now works with trauma patients.
The Permanent Secretary at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Stephen Quinn, becomes a Companion of the Bath (CB).
CBE's go to Andrew Coppel, Chair of Tourism Ireland; Fionnuala Jay-O'Boyle, for her work in NI Heritage; Richard Rodgers, former Chief Exectuive of the NI Heritage Service; and Dennis Rooney, Chair of the International Fund for Ireland.
Among those receiving OBE's was Invest NI's John Cooke, Head of Near-Market Research.

Northern Ireland’s best celebrated in Queen’s 2002 honours list
One knighthood is among the Queen’s New Year 2002 Honours List for Northern Ireland. Already holding a CBE, Patrick Armstrong has received a Knighthood for services to the police. Joining the Police Authority in 1991, he became was appointed vice-chairman in 1994 and chairman in 1997.

First flight from New York to Belfast touches down
The first ever non-stop scheduled air service between New York and Belfast has touched down at Aldergrove this morning. The new route, operated by Continental Airlines between Belfast and Newark airport, was made possible through a joint investment by Air Route Development (NI) Ltd, (a subsidiary of Invest NI) and Belfast International Airport.

94 Belfast Jobs Announced
94 jobs are to be created in Belfast as a result of a £6m investment by US data protection company Proofpoint Inc. Based in Sunnyvale, California, Proofpoint has selected Belfast as its research and development and operations centre. The base will act as an operations and support hub for Proofpoint’s customer base in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

NI To Be Enabled To Legislate Against Tobacco And Vaping
The Department of Health has welcomed the UK Government's plans to enable Northern Ireland to legislate to increase the smoking age and to introduce measures aimed at reducing youth vaping, subject to Northern Ireland Assembly agreement.

Floods Hit Northern Ireland
Sustained heavy rain last night left parts of Northern Ireland underwater with roads turned into rivers. And as drivers were warned only to travel if necessary, a kayaker and a surfer grabbed their opportunity to travel by water, their images then being circulated around the internet.
