Antrim company wins Queen's Enterprise Award
Antrim-based electronics company, Schrader Electronics, has been awarded the 2002 Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
The company was presented the award at its headquarters by Enterprise Minister Sir Reg Empey. The Queens’ representative, the Lord Lieutenant-General, Lord O’Neill, was also present.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sir Reg said: “Innovative product development has been the key factor in the company’s success and recognition such as this sends a strong message to businesses in Northern Ireland of the value of investing in research and development.
“Schrader has won several substantial contracts for its leading edge product including recent ones with Daimler/Chrysler, Ford and General Motors, the key players in the North American automotive industry.
"Overall, the company has achieved a 10-fold increase in exports in the last three years, a remarkable achievement that has given it an impressive presence in the global marketplace."
Sir Reg added that the company’s recent significant expansion reflected the success of its focus on new market opportunities and its commitment to developing further technical capability and new products. This kind of focus, he said, was what Invest NI was keen to encourage and support in local businesses since it is the cornerstone of future economic prosperity.
Schrader Electronics is one of five local businesses that recently won Queen’s Awards in the category of International Trade, in recognition of export achievement and outstanding performance.
