'Yes' Vote Slumps As Ordinary Voters Make Voices Heard
Early indications in the Irish Republic show that the ongoing Lisbon count is suggesting the 'Yes' camp is in trouble.
Warnings by Sinn Fein seem to have hit home as working class areas of the Iirsh capital are reported to be voting two to one against Lisbon, while the vote is more evenly split in middle class districts.
In Donegal North East, with 10% of boxes opened, not one has a 'Yes' majority, while in Tipperary North, political sources are predicting that the result will be very close.
Overall turnout was disappointing for the campaigners, estimated to have been around 45%, however recent opinion polls suggest supporters of the Treaty were more likely to vote; a lower turnout is not necessarily good news for the 'No' side.
The final official result is expected to be announced close to 6pm, and although it is too early for any definitive results, early indications from the 43 constituencies should give an insight into the likely outcome.
