Robinson Takes Top NI Post
The newly appointed Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) Leader, Peter Robinson and Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness have been appointed - after much controversy - to the posts of First and Deputy First Ministers of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
The East Belfast MLA and MP, Peter Robinson was nominated by former DUP leader Dr Ian Paisley and Mr McGuinness by Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams.
Earlier, outgoing First Minister Mr Paisley wished his Northern Ireland Executive colleagues well.
There had been speculation Sinn Féin would not renominate Mr McGuinness when Mr Paisley stood down.
However, this week's offer by the Prime Minister to chair talks with NI's new First and Deputy First Ministers at Downing Street on Friday has clinched a deal over Peter Robinson's appointment as First Minister.
Both party's leaders held talks with Prime Minister Gordon Brown this week in an effort to stave off an impending crisis.
Intense negotiations continued long into the night at Stormont between the power-sharing partners - but have now proved to have been successful.
