Roads and Schools To Benefit From Regional Development Plans
While Fermanagh is set to benefit from a £5.5m roads investment, announced by NI Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy this week, the Minister has also announced a £2.85m investment plan for the Limavady area.
Meeting with Limavady Council, Minister Conor Murphy discussed the ongoing schemes in that area - as well as projects set to commence work this year.
The Minister said: "It is proposed to realign and widen the Drumacarney Bridge on the Barnailt Road just south of Limavady while a scheme to provide a right turn facility on Ballyquin Road at its junction with Ballyavelin Road is also planned; the provision of bus lay-bys and enhanced footway links to Ardgarvan Cottages will be included in this scheme."
Also discussed at the meeting was the design of a traffic-calming scheme on Gortgare Road in Greysteel, which is nearing completion. Although subject to consultation, the scheme will introduce a number of measures including junction platforms and speed cushions.
"Two primary schools near Dungiven have been included in the 'Speed Management at Rural Schools' programme.
"Signs with flashing lights, which operate at times pupils enter or leave school, will be provided along with red surfacing near St. Paul's, Dernaflaw, and St. Peter's and St. Paul's, Foreglen,'' said Mr Murphy.
Meanwhile, in Fermanagh, the Minister welcomed a new bridge at Belcoo, being built in conjunction with Cavan Council and the National Roads Authority.
Discussing planned improvements in the Fermanagh area, the Minister said: "We plan to spend £3.5 million on various road maintenance projects in the Fermanagh area this year.
"A major resurfacing scheme is to be carried out this year will be on the A4 Belfast Road between Tamlaght and Lisbellaw," he concluded.

Kennedy Announces Two Resurfacing Schemes
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the start of two major resurfacing schemes this week in Portadown and L'Derry. A £330,000 resurfacing scheme has been announced for the Kernan Loop and M12 in Portadown, Armagh. The project will take place from Northway to the M12 and will include works on the M12.
