Derry Mayor opens Soham Book of Condolence
In response to requests from the community the Mayor of Derry, Councillor Kathleen McCloskey, has opened a Book of Condolence in memory of the two 10-year-old schoolfriends, Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, who were murdered in Soham, England.
The Book of Condolence opened at the Guildhall on Tuesday August 20 and will remain open until this Friday August 23 from 9am to 5.30pm each day.
The Mayor said: “I have received many requests from members of the public to provide a Book of Condolence in the city where they can express their sympathy to the families of these two children on this very sad occasion.”
The Mayor said she delayed taking the decision to open the Book of Condolence until police confirmed that they were as certain as they possibly could be that the two bodies discovered near a Suffolk airbase were those of the two missing schoolchildren.
Extending her condolences to the families and friends of Jessica and Holly, the Mayor said the entire community in the north west were deeply shocked at the murders.
“I feel it is important that the people of this city are given an opportunity to express sympathy and words of support to these children’s’ families in their time of need,” she said.

Book Of Condolence Opens For Victims Of Grenfell Tower Disaster
A Book of Condolence has officially opened at the City Hall in Belfast for the victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster in London. Lord Mayor Nuala McAllister opened the book at 1pm today, 20 June. The book will be opened to the public to sign in the main reception during normal opening hours.

A Book of Condolence has opened for victims of the attack in Nice, France, at Belfast City Hall. At least 84 people have been killed, including children, after a lorry drove into a crowd who were celebrating Bastille Day. An armed ISIS terrorist opened fire at the large number of people gathered to watch the fireworks display.
