Charitable Kielty Fights Driving Ban

Top local comedian and successful TV presenter, Patrick Kielty was unable to make his case today that he should be allowed to keep his driving licence - despite being caught speeding at 101mph - so he can carry on his charity work.

The presenter of Fame Academy and Love Island broke the 60mph limit on the single carriageway A75 Gretna to Stranraer road in Dumfries and Galloway - an offence he admitted in court last December.

However, while he was due to be sentenced at Stranraer Sheriff Court today, problems with obtaining a copy of his driving licence meant he could not be sentenced and did not appear.

His lawyer said he was seeking extra information about his client's charity work before appealing against a ban next month.

He wants to highlight Kielty's charity work and to argue that a ban would be inappropriate.

Sentencing was deferred until June 24 when his lawyer said Mr Kielty will attend.
