Bangor Woman's Death Was 'Murder'
A murder inquiry is now underway after a woman was found dead in north Down.
The killing of 49 year-old Margaret Finlay from the Southwell Road - who was found dead on Monday - has shocked the local community.
Local MLA, Peter Weir is shocked at the news: "I'm horrified by this. This will shock many people in Bangor.
"Obviously we need to see what the full circumstances are but clearly I would both condemn this and also call upon anyone who has any knowledge of this murder to contact the police," Mr Weir said.
After a post mortem examination was held, the initially "suspicious" death was upgraded yesterday to a murder hunt.
Detectives say they believe Margaret may have been assaulted in the Bangor area within the last week.
They are trying to trace her movements in the days prior to her death and are appealing for information.
DUP MLA Alex Easton, who chairs the local District Policing Partnership, also described the news that she may have been murdered as "both shocking and distressing".
"My sympathy is with the family and friends of the bereaved," he said.
"I have been in discussions with senior police and am appealing for the police to have every assistance as they investigate this matter."
