Dublin Hoax Bombs Follow Tyrone Car Bomb
As NI Deputy First Minister Martin McGuiness took the opportunity to pay a private visit to a police officer seriously injured in a dissident republican booby-trap car bomb attack in County Tyrone on Monday, two bomb hoaxes have disrupted parts of Dublin overnight.
Hours after the Sinn Fein Minister first condemned the bomb outrage and then called to Altnagelvin hospital to see the PSNI officer, who sustained serious, but not life-threatening, leg injuries in the attack in Spamount village, near Castlederg, Gardaí in Dublin were called to two separate incidents regarding hoax devices.
The police were called to the Rutland Grove Avenue area at approximately 10.50 pm on Tuesday night after a suspicious object was found under a car.
Gardaí from Sundrive Road cordoned off the area and began an evacuation of houses as Irish Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) arrived at the scene and examined the device before declaring it a hoax shortly after midnight.
In a separate incident, Garda were notified at 12.10am of another suspicious object found under a vehicle, this time on the Upper Rathmines Road.
Gardaí again had to cordon off the area and evacuate nearby houses. After an investigation by Army EOD at the scene the second device was also declared to be a hoax.
Both devices were sent to the Garda Technical Bureau for investigation.
