Court appearance for attempted murder accused

A 41-year-old man charged with eight counts of attempted murder is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court today.

The charges relate to a shooting incident in Cooke Street, in the lower Ormeau Road area of south Belfast in July of this year.

Eight adults and four children escaped injury when the driver of a car fired several shots from a handgun outside a house in the area.

Two Men Charged Following Major Disturbance In South Belfast
Two men have been charged in connection with a large scale brawl in south Belfast in the early hours of Sunday, 01 December. Police were called to the scene of an ongoing disturbance in the Bradbury Place area. The incident is understood to have started in a a bar in the area, before continuing on the street outside.

Investigation Launched Into Burglary In North Belfast
Detectives are appealing for information following a burglary at a flat in the Cliftonville Avenue area of North Belfast. The incident occurred sometime between 10pm on Friday 6th December and 4pm on Saturday 7th December. During the burglary, a sum of money, a wallet, and a set of speakers were stolen.

Two released in Loughinisland murder investigation
Two people arrested yesterday in connection with the with the murder of six men in County Down in 1994, have been released without charge. The 45-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were arrested in the greater Belfast area yesterday morning and were held for questioning at the serious crime suite in Antrim.

Road Improvement Works Announced In Lisburn
A road improvement scheme has been announced by TransportNI for Lurganure Road in Lisburn. The £215,000 project is due to begin on Wednesday, 20 April. The resurfacing and reconstruction scheme will take around eight weeks and is expected to be completed before the end of June.

Severe Rise In Scarlet Fever Cases
Northern Ireland has been endured a sharp rise in the number of scarlet fever cases since Christmas, according to the Public Health Agency (PHA). It said that in the first eight weeks of 2014 there were 82 cases compared to 50 in the same period in 2013. During the last year a rise to 199 cases was also reported, compared to 130 cases in 2011.
