Trimble set to attend World Summit
First Minister David Trimble is set to join heads of state from around the world in support of sustainable development at the World Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, later this week.
The Summit will be the largest-ever international meeting on sustainability and will bring together thousands of participants, including heads of state and government, business leaders and representatives of civil society, to promote sustainable development.
During his attendance at the Johannesburg Summit, the First Minister will hear of successes from across the world in relation to sustainable development initiatives and will also have the opportunity to visit examples of sustainable homes projects.
Mr Trimble will also meet Northern Ireland’s WWF 'Earth Champion', 11-year-old Peter Burton, from Ballymena Primary School.
Through the Programme for Government, the Northern Ireland Executive has adopted sustainable development as a cross-cutting theme - one that underpins its priorities.
Mr Trimble will also meet with groups involved in community relations and community development work in South Africa.
