Korean Ambassador urged to keep firm links with NI
The Korean Ambassador to the UK has been urged to continue looking towards Northern Ireland as a sound investment location for Korean firms.
The Ambassador, Dr Ra Jong-yil, was on his first visit to Northern Ireland for a series of meetings with officials, politicians and business leaders.
Following discussions held at Stormont on Thursday Lagan Valley MLA Ian Davis said: “Our ties with Korea go back a long way. So far back in fact that one of the last advisors to the King of Korea hailed from Lisburn and is honoured in Seoul with a public park named after him.
“More recently the contribution made by Korean electronics companies has been significant with household names such as Daewoo preferring to locate in Northern Ireland than any other region of the European Community.”
Links with Korea remain strong, Mr Davis pointed out that currently almost 1,000 people are employed by a total of nine Korean companies throughout Northern Ireland.
