School Rebuild Application Withdrawn

Concerns have been raised for the fate of a County Fermanagh school, after a planning application was withdrawn.

Enniskillen residents fear that the £15m Devenish College rebuild, which was due to start later this year, may not go-ahead.

The rebuild has been put on hold while the Western Education Board revises the plans.

However, the Board said full planning application would be lodged once consultants have been appointed for the projectors.

Ulster Unionist MLA Tom Elliott said that while he understood the decision is due to a "technicality", it was "despicable" how parents and schoolchildren have been treated.

"It is a simply outrageous situation, and the parents and children linked to Devenish College most certainly do not deserve to be treated in such a despicable manner," he said.

The Board of Governors Chairman Alec Baird said Education Minister Caitríona Ruane, her department and the Western Board would be held to account over the fate of the school.
