Education Board 'Rebels' To Return?
Budgeting problems - stemming from members refusing to accept financial cuts - that led to the unprecedented move of suspension of a Northern Ireland education board are now back in the news.
Politicians are to meet Assembly Education Minister Caitríona Ruane next week to see if the suspended education board can be reconvened.
The South Eastern Education and Library Board was discontinued in July 2006 after failing to work within its budget and since then, four government-appointed commissioners have run its affairs,
The shock move followed a 'rebellion' against cutbacks, led by DUP members, but it now seems they are trying to convince the current minister to let the board get back to business.
However, ex-DUP politician Charlie Tosh said he would not return to a board governed by the Sinn Féin minister.
Speaking on BBC Radio Ulster this morning he said: "I don't consider her to be a fit person to be in the government of Northern Ireland."
He also highlighted that the Minister is a resident of the Irish Republic, and said he didn't think that appropriate either.
The meeting will take place next Tuesday.
However, this will only be temporary move, as all five of Northern Ireland's education boards are scheduled to be scrapped next April, as part of a dramatic, Province-wide shake up of public services.
