Disabled Man 'Critical' After Beating

A teenager is to appear in court today in relation to an assault on a physically disabled man in Belfast.

The 19-year-old man was charged with the attempted murder of Ross McCartney, 21, who was assaulted at his home on the Castlereagh Road area on Friday.

It is understood Mr McCartney, who is critically ill in hospital, managed to make his way to a nearby florist's for help after the attack. An ambulance was then called to the scene.

Shirley Morrow, the man's mother, said they were due to go on holiday to Spain today. Speaking to the 'News Letter', she said her son was suffering "too many head wounds to count".

She continued: "I saw him covered in so many head wounds I couldn't count them.

"There were severe lacerations on the front of the head, and small ones at the back - just so many."

Ms Morrow also said she has no idea why her son was targeted, adding "there's not a bad bone in Ross's body".
