Child's Sight At Risk After Attack
An innocent eight-year-old boy from Londonderry may lose sight in one eye after he was struck in the face with a glass bottle.
Ciaran Doherty was playing outside his Quarry Street home when the incident happened on 16 March.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident, which has only recently been reported, to contact them.
Ciaran's mother Ashleen said her son has already lost "part of his sight in the eye".
"We took him to the hospital straight after he came in and they told us to bring him back the next morning and the surgeon would stitch the eyelid," she said.
"But that's when they noticed the actual eyeball was cut from the top right down to the bottom and he got 12 stitches."

Cost Of TV Licence To Increase
The cost of a TV licence is set to rise from 01 April. The full licence fee will increase to £147 from £145.50 and a black and white licence will go up to £49.50. This is the first rise since April 2010. People who are severely sight impaired are entitled to a 50% concession and a licence fee will cost them £73.50.

The Chief Commissioner, Professor Brice Dickson, voiced his alarm at reports that the government is set to consider tougher criteria for asylum seekers.

Police Shoot Pensioner In Firearms Incident
An official investigation is underway after a pensioner was twice 'shot' by special 'non fatal rounds' in east Belfast at the weekend. The NI Police Ombudsman is probing the incident and also seeking information after the 75-year-old man was hit twice by officers who were using new 'baton rounds'.
