Cops Flee Limavady

The rural Co Londonderry town of Limavady - which has seen a spate of arson attacks in recent months - is now figuring again in the news - and it's bad news again.

Two police officers have been forced out of their Limavady homes by threats. It is understand they are involved in a current investigation into criminal activity in the town.

Limavady District Policing Partnership Chairman, Michael Coyle, said the officers should be encouraged to be part of the communities they police.

"I am totally shocked by it. These officers are involved in ongoing crime in the Limavady area and it is terrible they have been threatened," he said.

"They have been threatened so much that they have been forced to leave their homes.

"They are no longer part of that community, which we are all trying to encourage police to do - to live within the community and be part of the community. It is a backward step."
