Ards Sex Attacker Jailed
A remorseless serial sex offender will be behind bars for just 10 years despite being given a 24 year custodial sentence for subjecting nine young girls to years of rape, sexual abuse and violence.
Jason King, 38, from Balfour Street in Newtownards, County Down, was told that he was every parent's worst nightmare.
Mr Justice Gillen said he considered King's case to be "probably the worst instance of multiple child abuse" that he had come across.
He was sentenced at Belfast Crown Court after being convicted on 58 counts including nine rapes and 25 indecent assaults.
However, the rapist is likely to be freed on licence in a decade, thanks to time already served and with the controversial 50% remission applicable to this case.
King was said to have groomed and preyed on the schoolgirls, aged between 12 and up to 15. Two of them became pregnant.
Though from Co Down, King, who showed no remorse, was brought up in County Kildare, but returned to Northern Ireland.
Mr Justice Gillen instructed that he sign the sex offenders' register for the rest of his life and barred him from ever working with children.

Sex Attack Victims 'Under Age'
Over half of victims of sex crime in Northern Ireland are under 18. That's according to PSNI figures that show 56% of all victims of reported sex abuse – including rape, indecent assault and indecent exposure – between 2008 and 2009 were under 18, with an average of three sex offences against children recorded every day.

Roman Catholic sex abuse audit to go back to 1940
An internal inquiry into child sex abuse within the 26 dioceses of the Catholic Church in Ireland will investigate allegations dating back more than 60 years it has emerged. The news follows an emergency meeting at Maynooth when the church revealed it was establishing its own inquiry into how it dealt with such complaints.

An horrific child sex case has ended with a Co Londonderry teenager - who admitted sexually abusing nine children - being jailed for four-and-a-half years. Derry's Crown Court heard that Gareth Martin, 18, of Marianus Park, began the abuse when he was aged 12 and that it continued for more than three years.

The PSNI have arrested a former football coach over alleged sex abuse claims. Jim McCafferty who lives in Belfast handed himself into Musgrave Police Station. A police spokesperson said: "A 71-year-old male has been arrested by detectives after presenting himself at a station in Belfast.
