Van The Man And Local Bands Take To States

Van Morrison is to head a Northern Ireland musical showcase in the US next week featuring a host of Belfast talent.

Launching his new album Keep It Simple, Van will be performing with a selection of local bands at the South-by-South West festival in Austin, Texas.

A showcase of local bands will feature as part of the event, allowing Northern Ireland's home grown talent to take to a world stage with the eyes of some of the industries biggest players watching.

The featured bands will be Downpatrick's classic rock act, The Answer, Armagh's, In Case of Fire, and Belfast's Foy Vance, Driving by Night, and Oppenheimer.

Van Morrison will be following up the gig with a short US tour, taking in Nashville and New York for a pre St Patrick's Day gig on March 15.

Driving by Night, Foy Vance, and In Case of Fire and The Answer will take to the stage on Friday March 14, followed by an Oppenheimer gig on the following night.

Northern Ireland’s Music Industry Commission will be hosting the showcases for the event, which promises to ignite further interest in Northern Ireland's burgeoning music scene.

John Edmund, chairman of NIMIC, said: "The strong public sector support for this initiative comes at a very opportune time - the Northern Ireland music sector is going from strength to strength - we continue to produce brilliant creative talent and we are now seeing very real growth in the international competitiveness of Northern Ireland's music business entrepreneurs."
